President Obama Proclaims The Month Of June As African American Music Appreciation Month

It’s no secret that President Obama is a fan of some good ole Hip Hop music. To show his appreciation for the art President Obama has proclaimed the month of June as African American Music Appreciation month. As of recent has even invited Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar to the White House to which President Obama credited the rapper for his smooth sounds on his latest album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’.

During a presidential proclamation issued on May 31st, President Obama stated, “African-American music exemplifies the creative spirit at the heart of American identity and is among the most innovative and powerful art the world has ever known. It accompanies us in our daily lives, and it has rung out at turning points in our history and demonstrated how our achievements as a culture go hand-in-hand with our progress as a Nation.”

The President also noted the observation for the month of June further adding; “I call upon public officials, educators, and all the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate activities and programs that raise awareness and foster appreciation of music that is composed, arranged, or performed by African Americans”. Thank you President Obama; job well done!
