That Rihanna reign just won’t let up as the Caribbean Queen is busier than ever these days. From a world tour, chart topping album and single, “Work”, remaining a peak position for the past fifteen weeks…it’s amazing that the starlet has any free time.
This week, she proved to have more up her sleeve, by announcing that she will be performing at the Billboard Music Awards on May 22 and she also revealed she has launched a global scholarship program.
The program is in collaboration with the Clara Lionel Foundations and is awarding full scholarships to young people in Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica and the United States. These awards will help to aid a student with the opportunity to receive an education anywhere in the United States. The scholarship funds range from $5,000 to $50,000 per student, and can be renewed until a student’s degree program is completed.
“To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor”, Rihanna said in a CLF video on the foundation’s efforts, “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”
Applications for the full-tuition grant are now open through June 10, 2016 and winners will be announced by August, 2016.
